Woman Killed Near Holiday Park

Wednesday, 25th July 2012

The body of 22 year old Ms Blackman from Derbyshire was found during a search by local fire fighters and rescue personnel after a landslide came down on the beach near Freshwater Beach Holiday Park. The Holiday Park is known for attracting families and many others were on the beach at the time of the landslide.

Recent reports from the area suggest that the recent levels of rain, then combined with extreme heat caused the cliff face to become unstable and then collapse yesterday (Tuesday 24th July) afternoon. There are no other reports of anyone injured at this time.

It is estimated that over 400 tonnes of rock and mud fell from the top of the cliff where many onlookers were astonished by clouds of yellow dust. Dorset police were called to the scene just before 12.30pm and were told that a body was trapped underneath the rubble. Sniffer dogs and trained rescue personnel were on scene very quickly however their attempts to find anybody alive were to no avail.

The stunned tourists, many of which were holidaying at Freshwater Beach Holiday Park we moved to a safe zone whilst the attempts to find people were undertook.

Freshwater Beach Holiday Park is located just 400 metres from the incident and we are sure that many there are aghast as to what has happened. We hope that the family is being consoled and our wishes are with them and those of close relatives of the boyfriend.
