Year Round Caravan Living in Wales - Consultation

Monday, 29th July 2013

Today's headlines in the caravan industry are focused around people who are choosing to live in their caravans all year round. Clwyd West AM Darren Millar has suggested that people who do this are avoiding paying council tax and are placing a burden on the local economy in terms of resources and NHS treatment.

There has been an increase in the number of people looking for a 12 month holiday park to place static caravans. We presume that many of these are not for use all year round, but people like the flexibility of choice. However it is probably the case that some are choosing to live in their static caravans. Are these people willfully neglecting to pay council tax? That is unsure, however it could be the case.

The report highlighted on the BBC News Website highlights that Darren Millar AM is looking to hear views on this topic from Park Owners as well as those who choose to live in their caravans.

We believe that this route is the best approach as in many cases it will be a tiny minority of people who avoid paying council tax on what could be classed as a second property if they live in their caravan for extended periods of time.
